Perfmon logs - Graph Maker

During Performance testing, thorough analysis of the performance logs is required to understand the effect of system’s performance attributes (CPU Usage, Memory Usage). In order to perform this analysis, one mean is to plot graph for Time Vs. Performance attributes. This helps in quickly analyze the performance effect over a period of time.

To achieve this, a performance tester uses the Performance Monitor (Perfmon) logs to perform the analysis. In many cases, the perfmon logs contains data of more than few days, which makes it difficult for the performance tester to find the required range of data and plot a graph. Also, a perfmon log will generally contain many performance attributes tracked which makes it more difficult to identify required performance attribute for specified time period.

In order to reduce this effort and draw quick graph between Time and required Performance attribute, an Excel macro can be used to extract and perform the task quickly and accurately.
